Gallery Artists / Tom Chesar

Tom Chesar

Tom Chesar has lived and painted in the Ringoes, New Jersey area for most of his life. The Delaware Valley and the rugged coast of New England, are favorite sources of subject matter. People and landscapes comprise much of his work, as well as city scenes and still lifes. He has frequently painted in the method of egg tempera. Not any easy process, working in so many layers of paint and many tiny brush strokes. The medium predates any other method in history. He has gone beyond the intricate task of the method of egg tempera and is working in gouache and acrylic and his manner of style is very similar to egg base. Tom's internal imagery and interpretation makes his art uniquely personal.

Tom credits the late Leo Russell, the Flemington artist and teacher with mentoring his life as an artist. Additional studies include the Fleisher Art Institute in Philadelphia, Printmaking Council of New Jersey, and Gary Akers, AWS. His Bachelor's Degree is from Rider College.

His work had been exhibited and won awards in countless national, state and local juried shows including: the New Jersey State Museum Biennial; Phillips Mill Annual; Ellerslie, Trenton City Museum: Hunterdon Art Museum; National Society of Painters of Casein & Acrylic; Lambertville Historical Society and Artsbridge. His paintingss are in public and private collections throughout the United States.
