Richard has said in a statement " Painting for me is about light, memory and the senses. It is also a contagion of shapes and forms, horizontal and vertical, stability, rhythms, tonal contrast, volume, textures, that catch the light. Sometimes elements are inventions: buildings, sky, seasons, etc., they are used to try and gather unity that might not otherwise exist. The Delaware Valley has been my visual source"
