Nancy Silvia, Pastels
Nancy Silvia holds a BFA degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the Yale Universty School of Art and Architecture. She has studied art in Rome, Italy and calligraphy in Tokyo, Japan.
Nancy Silvia Statement
Growing up near the ocean in Connecticut, Nancy claims one of her earliest visual memories is of the horizon line, and earliest influence as an artist the marine paintings of New England. Drawing and painting were a primary activity since childhood.
Professional memberships include American Society of Marine Artists, Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of New Mexico, and Plein Air Painters of New Mexico. Nancy has been awarded residency grants at the Ragdale Foundation in Illinois and the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums and included in private and public collections in both the US and Japan. She recently had a show, with her artist husband, Hiroshi Murata, at Gallery Tokyo Eizo in Tokyo
Nancy and her family had lived in Hunterdon County for many years, and now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She continues to exhibit in the Coryell Gallery and the Rabbet Gallery in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
