Valerie Von Betzen
Born in New England, Valerie Von Betzen soon moved to New York City and was selected to attend the High School of Music and Art. thereafter won a scholarship to the Art Students League where she studied life drawing with Robert McNulty. Valerie says"I'm interested in recreating the city scenes, mostly because of the light sources. In succession, natural light, then all of the man-made light, such as neon, incandescent and all manner of street lighting. Then, of course car headlights.
She is well traveled, After Art School, Valerie lived in Europe for a year, and then earned a scholarship to Bard College where she studied English literature and the Arts. She remained in New York City and was an art director for McGraw Hill Publishing. She left the corporate World and began to paint.
She bought a house in Bucks County, where she enjoyed painting landscapes and the small towns nearby. in 1990 she became a painter of considerable reputaion exhibiting, winning prizes in all the rivertowns, including Phillips Mill Annual Juried Exhibition. She has also won kudos from museums
